Overview

Thiamine was the first B vitamin to have been identified, thus also known as vitamin B1. Most animals lack privilege of its in vivo biosynthesis of thiamine and obtained in certain amounts from dietary supplement as an essential micronutrient. Food sources of thiamine contain whole grains, some meats and fish. In contrast, ruminal can synthesised almost 90 % of thiamine via microorganisms. In the body, thiamine occurs as free thiamine and various phosphorylated forms: thiamine monophosphate, thiamine triphosphate and thiamine pyrophosphate. The hydroxyl group of thiamine in thiamine pyrophosphate is replaced by a diphosphate ester group. Thiamine pyrophosphate is the active form of thiamine and it serves as a cofactor for several enzymes involved in energy metabolism. These enzymes include the mitochondrial pyruvate dehydrogenase, the a-ketoglutarate dehydrogenase complexes and the cytosolic transketolase, all of which participate in carbohydrate catabolism by regulating the Krebs cycle. Deficiency of thiamine leads to a reduction in the activity of these enzymes, albeit its effects on the different enzymes is different. The aberrations of thiamine metabolism are closely associated with various human diseases like Alzheimer's disease and depression. Scientists at v-innovate Technologies take advantage of highly quantitative methods with high-performance liquid chromatography (HPLC) for the determination of thiamine metabolism related metabolites levels in various samples. Furthermore, we provide reliable, rapid and cost-effective thiamine metabolism related service to speed up your research aims ranging from diseases diagnosis to gaining new insights in disease mechanism or treatment.
