About Arecoline

Arecoline is an M agonist that excites cholinergic M receptors (muscarinic receptors) and stimulates sympathetic nerves. Arecoline acts on the gastrointestinal digestive system, mainly on the gastrointestinal propulsion, and also promotes small intestine peristalsis. Arecoline protects against Ox-LDL-induced vascular endothelial damage and inhibits the overexpression of high-fat (or high-sugar)-induced vascular endothelial cell adhesion molecules. However, arecoline also has toxic side effects, and the most studied and concentrated effect is on oral cells. Studies have shown that chewing rough betel nut can cause oral mucosal inflammation, oral submucosal fibrosis, DNA damage and malignancy.

In order to better understand the functions and mechanisms of arecoline, and to promote the application of arecoline in anthelmintic, bactericidal, anti-thrombotic, anti-atherosclerotic, oral and neurological applications, it is necessary to identify and analyze the changes in arecoline content using precise and reliable techniques.

In order to ensure the accuracy of the samples and reduce systematic errors during sampling, it is necessary to select more than 3 materials with the same condition for each sample. The same condition refers to the same period, basically the same phenotype, and the same part. It is recommended that prepare more than 6 biological replicates.
