About α-carotene

α-carotene is a member of the carotenoid family and one of the most abundant carotenoids in a healthy diet.

α-carotene is the precursor of vitamin A. One end of the molecule is a β-ring and the other end is an ε-ring.

α-carotene contains flavonoids, which are found in various fruits and vegetables. This is an antioxidant that provides color and fragrance to many orange or red fruits and vegetables. Carrots, sweet potatoes, pumpkin, broccoli, kale, cantaloupe, spinach, mango, kiwi, pumpkin and other vegetables and fruits are the best sources of α-carotene.

The human body can convert α-carotene and β-carotene into vitamin A needed to maintain healthy skin and bones, good vision and a strong immune system.

α-carotene also plays a role in preventing cancer by stimulating communication between cells, which is a process required to ensure proper cell division.

Its molecular formula is C40H56, and its CAS number is 7488-99-5.
